VECCS Transitions Leadership

VECCS Transitions Leadership

Dear VECCS members,

We the undersigned take this opportunity to advise the membership of a historic change in the governance of the Society. In 1990 Dr Stamp became Executive Secretary of VECCS and in 1999 full-time Executive Director. After a national search, Mr. PJ Andrus, CAE, accepted the position as Chief Executive Officer of VECCS November 26, marking a milestone in the association.

I, (Gary S) want to thank the membership and the many Boards of Directors (BODs) for the opportunity to serve as your Executive Director. I will continue as a part of VECCS leadership in the position of Director of Professional Affairs and Education to focus on IVECCS, and our other CE activities. My decision to transition from the day-to-day operation of VECCS after 30 years was not easy considering my intense passion for the organization, belief in our mission and love for the members. We have experienced enormous growth and extraordinary advancement together over these 30 years. VECCS has had a profound impact on delivery of patient care and the profession as a whole. We should take collective pride in what we have accomplished. However, there is still much we can do and must do to address the spectrum of challenges confronting us today. We are pleased to have retained PJ as a highly successful association executive to be our CEO. Mr Andrus, MBA, CAE comes to VECCS from his position as Executive Director of the American Society of Healthcare Engineers where he worked for 13 years

Please be assured that the Board of Directors, PJ and I are working very closely together to not only ensure a smooth transition in leadership but to plan for the exciting future of VECCS. We are committed to being responsive to member needs, being innovative in developing new programs while remaining true to our core objective of raising the level of patient care through education and training.

First and foremost, I (PJ) am thrilled and honored to join your amazing organization as the new CEO. I echo Dr Stamp’s comments and am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to continue working alongside such a passionate, intelligent, and well-respected veterinary leader. It is clear that I have big shoes to fill, however with the Board’s, the VECCS team, and your input, we will continue to build on past success to improve the delivery and quality of veterinary emergency and critical care.

My career experience has been working in all aspects of association management, most recently as the Executive Director of the American Society for Healthcare Engineering where I had worked since 2005. After learning more about VECCS, the mission, and most importantly, the culture of this wonderful group, this was an opportunity I could not pass up. I have a lot to learn about the field and I intend to get started immediately. Thank you to Dr. Stamp, the Board and the incredible VECCS team for all your support in getting me up to speed in my first few weeks. I intend to engage with as many members as possible to learn and hear your feedback on how we can continue to improve the value of being a VECCS member. While I will be reaching out to connect with our members, please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly at or (847) 707-9493.

Again, together we pledge to the members to work tirelessly on your behalf and look forward to maintaining the culture and collegial atmosphere that are so special to VECCS.

Gary Stamp, DVM, MS, DACVECC
