Top three ferret emergencies and how to survive them

Description: In this 50 minute lecture, the most common 3 emergency presentations of ferrets will be reviewed. The lecture will focus on pattern recognition of the presenting features of insulinoma, lower urinary obstruction and gastrointestinal obstruction. Sound diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to each presentation will be reviewed.

By the end of the session, attendees will be able to:

1. Recognize the presentation of ferrets presenting the top three emergency presentation.
2. Order and interpret diagnostics to diagnose ferrets with the top three emergency presentations.
3. Prescribe treatments and therapies to treat ferrets with the top three emergency presentations.

Speaker Info: Dr. Keller is associate professor of clinical zoological companion animal medicine and surgery at UC Davis. In this position she treats exotic animals, teaches the next generation of veterinarians and veterinary specialists in zoological medicine and performs research.
